Advanced material is considered to be one of the key factors to
lead the industry in the 21st century. For wide application to industry, the development of advanced materials should
be followed by adequate testing, analysis and evaluation technologies
which are used to determine physical, mechanical and chemical properties
of materials.
Although every economy is able to independently
perform R&D to develop advanced materials, materials testing
and evaluation is a sector that need multilateral cooperation as
widely accepted and reliable methods are very significant in the
testing and evaluation.
As the world market of the advanced
materials has rapidly grown over the past decades, multilateral
cooperation for standardization of materials testing and evaluation
methods has become the key issue to the development and the application
of advanced materials, as well as to the reduction of technical
barriers to trade.
In order to cope adequately with such
trends and promote collaboration among the APEC member economies,
the ANMET carries out the missions:
1. to provide appropriate interconnection
for the purpose of collaborative activities in materials testing
and evaluation technologies;
2. to collaborate on the development
of standardized methods of materials testing and evaluation;
3. to collaborate on the development
of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs);
4. to encourage technology transfer
by exchange of researchers, technical information, materials and
publication; and
5. to collaborate with each other by
participating in seminars, workshops and training courses in each
other¡¯s laboratories.
